Whether you're a nanny or a mum if you're anything like me you dread the moment a child stops talking to you and starts giving you one word answers!
As a nanny I was fairly unequipped to deal with this situation when it came up and although we worked through it, I think a little bit of well placed advice would have gone a long way to help.
That's why I thought I'd share these articles I found on how to communicate with your child:
Tell me about your day, darling gives one or two tips from a retired childhood educator, including the useful (and easy to remember) 'Tell me' technique
How to communicate effectively with preschoolers discusses giving your preschooler full attention, watching your body language, and tuning in to your child’s emotions
How you communicate with your school aged child suggests time, listening, respect and persistence are the key factors here.
Have you ever had this issue with a child or your own or in your care? Do you have any other tips for our readers? Please share them below!
